Hot take, maybe there are jobs out there but education has been priced so high it makes the risk of going back to school to change careers when it becomes more appealing/in need so difficult that you’re stuck due to the unjust limitations placed on achieving said education. You have only a symbolic marching forward lest you’ve made enough to save up to repay capitalism for your own hard labour. How ridiculous. Yes, companies should pay for your education. 

It’s foolish of them to just burn you as a potential candidate if they or you let them go before. Especially with no replacement prospects. Business has relentlessly taken advantage of the good will of its people and those it’s supposed to serve. We create businesses. We choose how they run. We can choose for them to run differently. Pressure is effective. What are your pressure limits? 

Maybe companies should train people to work there long term, making the work environment as stress free as possible is a good thing. When people laugh at those with work places that have pool tables, keep in mind they’ve been put in high pressure no relax jobs for so long they feel they’ll never be in that spot and look down on it for the elitism it is. If you’re a worker, even with these privileges you should not look down on those who make less than you, you should always be lifting them up for it lifts you in kind.

H1-b visa people can help with this but for a reasonable level of pay.

If you’re like, but why should we replace them, or are fearful they wouldn’t want to go home, congratulations you’ve invented breaks. You have no idea where your teacher actually returned to in elementary school. For all you know you benefitted from or potentially were harmed by either potential candidates because it’s not a perfect system. 

I’m talking about teachers and tutors. We have teachers and tutors going all over the world to help share language etc anyways. 

If you’re concerned about the curriculum then businesses need to function in a way that allows parents to stay informed and have a stay. Congrats, you’ve invented school town halls. You see a problem and are trying to address it? Don’t marry a solution that doesn’t actually solve your problems if it’s not working it’s ok to try something else. What’s the limit on things to try, you aim for the most humane solutions possible. If you’re like “hmm, GAS CHAMBERS” - wtf? Obviously no… 

Yes I see all the concerns. Is it a valid risk? What would you actually prefer, in reality? Your fantasies may conflict with your true desires reality. Choosing wisely is essential. Which can cause mental lock, so also relax about it. Remember you’re human and entitled to feel however you’d like about people.

Why not ban the WITCH and similar exploiting firms and solve most of the frauds? A lot of these rules look good on paper but aren’t solving much. There’s other employment areas/sectors that need attention but this H-1B thing is being dragged out for so long it’s starting to feel like it’s to appease the voters.

This is not much of a change, it’s going to impact a small percentage of employers and applicants. 

I think this administration is very smart at demonstrating that they are doing a lot of things, when in fact they are carefully choosing what rules they modify, most changes being made don’t have a significant impact but still make news and win them points, with the exception of the $100k fee change, that’s a huge one. 

They are making sure most of these  changes don’t damage the businesses and economy but still keep them in good books of their  voter base.

Will look further to see if they only target visa abuse or target LEGAL workers under the schemes. It's very clear that the $100000 H1B news has backfired spectacularly. Canada, UK, Germany, China all want those international workers to come. I'm sure that some multinational companies will accelerate offshoring.

Spouses can work, which is a hide difference (with H1B, unless it changed, they can’t)
I, honestly, have never met anyone who was paid home country salary. But I’m in tech, maybe it is more common in other industries.

The 100k thing was quite dumb. This legislation is not. It actually tackles the issue rather than sets a new tax. It leaves the door open to attract the best international talent while closing doors that don’t.

They do to some extent. Democrats do want more immigration but I feel they want immigration from poor latin american countries. Bernie Sanders in particular has spoken out against H1B.

Personally as a citizen who was born a citizen by descent I don't want companies in my country to prioritize workers from other countries. But that's exactly what's happening. A job I was laid off from a few years ago let go a lot of US workers but remarkably kept a lot of the H1Bs and gave them preference for redeployment within the company. That isn't right at all.

I do support limiting them but again to a hammer everything looks like a nail, and this requires a scalpel.

If we make it hard to bring people with skills and knowledge here, how will we learn the skills and knowledge that we don't have here?

It'd make more sense to encourage some sort of program to make it easy to do that training while investing in American education and development, then once we catch up we slowly begin to throttle the H-1Bs.

But instead they do this, which is just puzzling and obviously counter productive.

It’s just a dumb idea. No skilled laborer is going to pay you to come work here. If conservatives honestly think that’s a realistic thing that could happen then they need to stop living in fantasy land.

No, we already have a worker shortage. There is no reason to make it worse. I don't know if H-1B visas can be used by charter schools, but if we could sponsor some immigrants to come here and help with our staff shortage, dear god we need to do it. It's so bad that we recently hired someone who has NEVER worked in education or with kids in their life, and we hired her as a SPED teacher. If an actually trained SPED teacher from Brazil or something wanted to come here to fill that job, I would love that. Btw she got burnt out and quit after a couple months because she was not equipped to handle suddenly being a SPED teacher. People like her are pretty common in my district, but they usually last a full year. Last I checked, i had 30 kids on my caseload, and while I do not service most of them, I have I think 17 evaluations for SPED in process right now, and I know I am getting more later throughout the year. She had I think 45 kids, and I am unsure how many evaluations she had. Note: some evaluations are the kind done every 3 years and some are the kind to get a kid into SPED in the first place.

As a retired engineer, I always felt the H1B visas were abused by employers. It seems like asking for $100,000 for the app is a little overboard but maybe asking for $10,000 or $20, 000 might be enough to give employers a pause and make them really look for people they really need.

I’m in tech and do want a limit - but still available.  Certain firms like consulting firms should be severely limited or barred.  It makes sense to be available for research or high tech firms.  Do H1B holders have a path towards a green card or citizenship?  Otherwise long term H1B visa holder is just another form of indentured servitude.

Anybody heard of supply and demand? If there's a shortage of a skill set, pay more. The supply will increase. Unfortunately billionaires would like to pay less so they offshore and use h1b visas to hire cheap, usually substandard labor, in my personal  experience.  $100k sound about right in that it levels the compensation for the job description. Overseas hires no longer undercut hard working, competent, English speaking Americans.

Fee needs to apply for renewals as well, wages need to be 25% higher than top 10 percentile wages for level, and H1b should not be available for manager positions (to limit the rampant ethnic nepotism). Additionally, renewals should be denied for anyone remaining in same wage level if the wage level is 1 or 2.
